Das WAP-Forum wurde 1997 von Ericsson, Motorola, Nokia und Unwired Planet (jetzt Phone.com) gegründet und ist für die Veröffentlichung und Entwicklung von WAP-Spezifikationen (Wireless Application Protocol) zuständig. Das WAP-Forum arbeitet eng mit dem World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) und der Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) zusammen. Ziel des WAP-Forums ist es, einen Industriestandard zu schaffen, um die Interoperabilität zwischen drahtlosen Geräten zu fördern.
